Tarneit welcomes new rail link

Tarneit Gardens' residents are set to benefit from smoother and faster travel to Melbourne and regional centres thanks to a new $4 billion rail line announced by the State Government.

The new regional rail link involves the construction of a 40-kilometre track beginning west of Werribee, continuing through Tarneit and Sunshine and finishing at Southern Cross station.

The dedicated regional rail link will benefit both regional and metropolitan train travellers by removing Geelong-bound trains from the Werribee line and creating a dedicated regional link.

Once complete, the new service will add to the popularity and appeal of homesites at Tarneit Gardens by further complementing the quality, master-planned features of the community with even more convenient public transport.

To support the development of new homesites, Peet is investing millions into community facilities, such as parklands, open space, sporting fields and playgrounds at the estate.

For residents commuting from Tarneit Gardens, the Government's rail extension will add an extra seven regional trains in peak hour, carrying up to 9,000 more passengers per hour. It will also improve the efficiency and capacity of the V-Link service from Werribee by removing regional trains from that line.

While the timing for the construction of the new line is still to be confirmed, the plan has been established as a short-term priority by the Victorian Government under their broader $38 billion Victorian Transport Plan.

The plan includes a range of strategies to deliver more trains and trams, additional tracks and station, better roads and more transport choices in cities, regional centres and country towns.

The plan was developed from a variety of sources including suggestions contained in the Investing in Transport report, prepared by Sir Rod Eddinginton in early 2008, which considered the input of more than 2,000 public submissions.
